Imphal: Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) condemned the July 11 arson attack on Meitei houses in Kanto Sabal. The organization blamed the destruction on Kuki mobs participating in a rally held by the Leimakhong Area Protection Committee (LAPC). Joint General Secretary Manggou Thadou stated there could be "no justification" for the violence.
TIM welcomed the Manipur government's initial arrests and official condemnation. The group now demands a prompt, transparent investigation by both the state and central authorities. They want those responsible held accountable under the law. Security needs to improve near the Leimakhong Military Station in Kangpokpi district.
The organization warned its community against local influence. They ordered residents in 27 villages under the LAPC to cut ties with Kuki groups and the LAPC itself. TIM instructed these villagers to identify only as Thadou and register with the organization. This move aims to prevent misidentification during the ongoing unrest. Criminal liability must remain an individual matter resolved through legal channels.
TIM called for increased protection against coercion from militant groups. This includes fighters both inside and outside the Suspension of Operations agreement. To bolster security, the group told residents to display Thadou Village signboards. Leaders also proposed new partnerships with Naga communities to foster regional trust and peaceful coexistence.
