Imphal: Residents of Tanrui Tangkhul Naga village have appealed to the Manipur government for protection after facing repeated gunfire from militants in neighboring areas. The village media cell reported that attacks occurred on the nights of June 9 and 10, originating from fortified positions in the Kuki villages of Thingphai and C. Kholen.

According to the reports, militants fired sophisticated weapons toward the village around 8:20 PM on June 9. The aggression intensified the following night, with heavy gunfire continuing until midnight. Villagers noted that this escalation coincided with the discovery of six Naga hostages who were found murdered. The community believes these tactics are intended to intimidate residents and disrupt their livelihoods during the current paddy planting season.

The village authorities identified previous incidents of firing on April 24 as part of a growing pattern of aggression. They have urged leaders in the Thingphai and C. Kholen jurisdictions to prevent their land from being used to launch violent attacks. In a formal statement, the villagers condemned the ongoing hostilities, saying, "This series of unprovoked acts of aggression suggests a premeditated offensive plan aimed at showcasing their barbaric behavior during a time when the community's collective conscience was deeply shaken by the brutal murder of the six innocent Naga hostages."

Tanrui village is now calling on the Manipur state government to take decisive action against the militants. Residents are seeking immediate security measures to safeguard their lives and preserve peace in the region.
