Imphal: The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has issued a sharp condemnation following the recovery of the bodies of six Liangmai Naga men, who were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district on May 13, 2026. The organization described the killings as a heinous act that has deeply shocked the entire Naga community.
According to the TNL, the victims included church leaders and family members. Their remains were found nearly a month after they were taken, despite prior attempts by Naga groups to stabilize the situation by releasing 14 Kuki detainees. In an official statement, the group declared, "The TNL expressed grief over the fate of the six Liangmai Naga civilians who were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district on May 13, 2026."
The TNL has criticized both the State and Central governments for perceived failures during the search operation, arguing that the delay in finding the victims has eroded public trust. The organization is now calling for several specific measures, including the termination of the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki militant groups and the official designation of the KNF-P as a terrorist entity.
In addition to seeking the arrest of those responsible for the abduction and the separate killing of Wilson Thanga Chiru, the TNL demanded the dismissal of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen. To honor the victims and press for justice, the organization has scheduled a candlelight vigil for 6 pm on June 13 at the Wino Bazaar Ground in Ukhrul. While calling for accountability, the TNL urged the Naga community to practice restraint and avoid further unrest.
