Imphal: The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long has issued a sharp condemnation following a violent ambush on National Highway 202. The organization alleges that armed groups identified as Kuki narco-terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on food transport trucks, resulting in one death and one injury. The attack occurred near Yaolen and Mongkot Chetpu on May 29, 2026.

Nitis Kumar, a 57-year-old driver from West Bengal, was killed while transporting essential goods for the Food Corporation of India. Disingam Mringmei, a 35-year-old Manipur Police officer stationed at the Litan post, also sustained serious injuries during the encounter. The TNL reports that this incident took place while Central Security Forces were present in the immediate area.

Beyond the attack on transport vehicles, the committee detailed a pattern of aggression in the region. Local residents of TM Kasom reported coming under fire while preparing for a funeral service. Additionally, heavy gunfire directed at Litan forced many villagers to abandon their homes. These events follow a three-month period during which the committee claims armed groups have illegally blockaded the highway to conduct extortion.

The TNL expressed frustration over the perceived indifference of the security forces tasked with guarding the route. The organization has called upon the state and central governments to intervene immediately to restore safety, clear the highway, and hold the perpetrators accountable for the ongoing violence.
