Tangkhul Naga Long Calls 24-Hour Shutdown Over Assam Rifles Allegations

Imphal: The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) launched a 24-hour total shutdown across its jurisdiction starting Sunday evening. The protest follows a resolution from a Monday joint meeting aimed at forcing the removal of an alleged illegal Assam Rifles outpost located at New Haven on National Highway-202.

The organization is also demanding criminal action against army personnel accused of using excessive force against peaceful women protesters. According to the TNL, demonstrators at New Heaven, Shokvao, and Finch Corner faced brutal assault and intimidation. The group characterized these events as a significant breach of democratic rights, stating that the actions were a "grave violations of democratic rights and an affront to the dignity of Naga women."

Public outrage prompted the shutdown, with the TNL expressing deep concern over the security personnel's ongoing presence in the region. While the action is expected to halt normal movement and commercial activity, the organization confirmed that essential services will remain operational. Medical services, water supply, electricity, and media operations are exempt from the shutdown to ensure that the community is not completely disrupted.
