Kohima: Sumi Hoho president Dr. Vihuto Asumi joined the Meluri Town Sumi community to celebrate the Tuluni Festival on July 8. The event took place at the Sumi Baptist Church in Meluri. It was a day for harvest, feasting, and community gathering.
Dr. Asumi officially brought the Meluri Town Sumi community into the fold as a formal sub-unit of the Sumi Hoho. He pulled the cover off a plaque to mark the induction. He told the crowd the Sumi people hold a unique spot in Nagaland to bridge gaps between tribes. He pushed for better harmony with the Pochury people and praised their long relationship.
During his speech, Dr. Asumi asked the attendees to lead lives of absolute integrity. He reminded the crowd that “Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.”
Local leaders including Meluri Deputy Commissioner Phuleshe Yeptho and Pochury Hoho president Chonpa Jurry also spoke at the gathering. Representatives from the Meluri Town Council and a cultural troupe from Meluri Village joined the festivities. The day wrapped up with a focus on unity and shared respect between the local communities.
