Kohima: St John School in Kiusam Town debuted a new hand wash station on July 30. Public leaders, church officials, Gaon Buras, parents, and students gathered for the opening. Rev Fr Thomas Toretkiu blessed the site, while Tsangli, President of the Kiusam Area Gaon Buras, served as the chief guest for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Thangpong, Head GB of Kiusam Town, and Pauline Phulem, President of the Kiusam Catholic Women, attended as guests of honour.
The event also featured the opening of upgraded urinal sheds for boys and girls. Adani David, the school head teacher, opened the proceedings with a welcome address. The program included a school anthem, a prayer, and a scripture reading by Catherine. Following the inauguration, the chief guest and students demonstrated proper use of the new wash station.
Rev Fr Thomas Toretkiu spoke on the necessity of practical hygiene. He told the assembly, "Cleanliness is next to Godliness." He encouraged the student body to wash their hands consistently, specifically around their mid-day meals. Chief guest Tsangli warned that dirty hands spread diarrhoea, coughs, colds, flu, and various eye and skin infections. He noted that soap remains a primary defense against illness for school children.
Thangpong and Pauline Phulem praised the school for prioritizing sanitation infrastructure. They noted the improvements will have a lasting positive impact on the health of the students.
