Shillong: The District Administration of South West Garo Hills has officially banned all heavy vehicle traffic from crossing Bridge No. 15/3 at Betasing, located on the Garobadha to Dalu Road. This urgent safety measure follows a technical inspection on May 14 by the Executive Engineer of the PWD Roads Ampati Division, which revealed significant structural deterioration at the bridge approach.

District Magistrate Kum. Anendya Raajsshre issued the order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. Officials emphasized that allowing continued passage of tankers, buses, dumpers, and other loaded vehicles could lead to a catastrophic collapse, posing a direct threat to public safety and property. This restriction is effective immediately and will remain in place until necessary restoration works are fully completed.

To maintain transport links, the administration has implemented a mandatory diversion plan. Motorists are directed to use the Betasing to Ishaguri PMGSY Road, travel to Mirjumla via the Garobadha to Mankachar Road, and proceed to Ampati through the Ampati to Mankachar route. The Superintendent of Police and local transport authorities have been instructed to enforce these measures strictly through the installation of barricades and warning signage, noting that those who disregard the order will face legal consequences.
