Shillong: Sonam Raghuvanshi turned herself in to a sessions court in Shillong on Wednesday. She faced arrest after the Supreme Court canceled her bail. The apex court overturned an earlier lower court decision to release her.
Police took Sonam into judicial custody immediately following her surrender. She faces charges for the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. The Indore businessman vanished while on his honeymoon in May 2025. He had traveled to Meghalaya with his new bride.
Search teams found his body at the bottom of a deep gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls in the Sohra area of East Khasi Hills. Meghalaya Police formed a Special Investigation Team to hunt for the killers. Detectives claim the trip was a setup. They allege Sonam conspired with others to execute a premeditated hit. Investigators are also looking at her former partner and several other suspects accused of helping plan the crime.
The case shocked the country. Public interest peaked due to the grim details of the honeymoon murder. Prosecutors stated, "Sonam played a central role in a premeditated conspiracy to kill Raja." Legal proceedings will continue in Shillong as the court moves forward with the murder case.
