Kohima: Six villages in Tuensang joined forces this week to protect local forests. Representatives from Hak, Nakshou, Yali, Lokhung, Momching, and Saoshou met at the Divisional Forest Officer’s office on July 8. They aim to swap isolated conservation work for a single, unified strategy. The project operates under the Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya project.
The group spent the day mapping out a Joint Community Conserved Area Committee. They drafted rules, defined roles, and set a framework for shared responsibility. Officials pushed the idea that collective action matters more than individual efforts. Dr. Prabhat Kumar, the Divisional Forest Officer, led the meeting. He and his staff stressed that success depends on working as one cluster. The official press release noted, "The consultative meeting marked the beginning of a landscape-level conservation initiative under the Sangyochung cluster."
Villagers agreed to manage their natural resources as a team. They will use a common platform to safeguard the woods. The meeting concluded with a pledge to keep the forests healthy through coordinated local action.
