Guwahati: A landslide between Yaongyimsen in Nagaland’s Mokokchung district and Yongshei in Longleng district has triggered a partial blockage of the Dikhow River. Reports suggest 80 per cent of the river channel is obstructed, with only 20 per cent of water still flowing. Officials received this information via a voice message from the Longleng district administration, citing the chairman of Yongshei village.
Sivasagar district authorities in Assam quickly moved to verify the site on Thursday, October 1. They found the river flowing smoothly with no significant silt accumulation. Downstream residents reported no unusual changes in water levels or flow patterns. The water level at Bihubar remains stable.
The administration continues to watch the situation closely. Despite the stability, officials maintain a state of alert for downstream riverine areas as a safety precaution. Residents should ignore rumors and stick to official government channels for updates. “The Sivasagar district administration has been in contact with the Longleng district administration and is monitoring the situation closely.”
Stay alert. Watch the river. If you spot a sudden rise in water levels or unusual shifts, report it to the District Emergency Operation Centre immediately. The DEOC can be reached at 84718-64355 or the toll-free line 03772-1077.

Sivasagar district officials confirmed that the reported blockage does not exist. After completing a ground assessment, the District Disaster Management Authority stated the river is flowing freely past the landslide site, located roughly 44 km from the Naginimora bridge.
Data from the District Disaster Management Authority places the current water level at 94.73 metres. This remains 9.04 metres below the danger mark of 103.77 metres. Officials continue to track the river, noting that while weather forecasts from the India Meteorological Department and Central Water Commission predict light rainfall in the region, water levels remain stable.
