Silchar Groups Threaten Road Strike Over Infrastructure Decay

Guwahati: A coalition of 16 civil society groups in Silchar launched a sarcastic thank you campaign on Monday. They are fed up with broken roads and endless flooding. The United Citizens group gave the Assam government until Friday to fix the mess at Meherpur.

This main artery links the Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Assam University, and NIT Silchar. It has been falling apart for years. Patients and students struggle through massive potholes and deep water every time it rains. Commuters suffer through constant traffic jams. Local leaders argue officials have ignored their repeated pleas for help.

The ultimatum is simple. The group expects visible work on drainage and pavement by the weekend. If the state ignores the deadline, the activists will start a road strike on Saturday. One member stated, "If no concrete action is taken within the stipulated timeframe, they will launch a Road Strike from Saturday."

The coalition is ready to escalate. They promised further protests and a potential citywide bandh if the government continues to drag its feet. For now, the people wait.
