Gangtok: The Sikkim government has officially launched a survey for a double-lane road designed to connect Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) outposts in the western region. This infrastructure project serves as a key initiative to improve border management and accessibility within the state's rugged frontier areas.

A team of senior officers from the Roads and Bridges Department conducted an extensive field inspection at Upper Ribdi Bhareng on June 16. Officials noted that the project is intended to enhance the movement of security personnel and provide better logistical access to isolated border villages. According to officials, "The proposed road project is expected to enhance connectivity between strategic border locations, improve mobility in difficult terrain, and support infrastructure development in frontier regions."

Beyond its military and strategic utility, the road is expected to stimulate economic growth by boosting regional tourism. Improved infrastructure will likely link remote border communities with current tourist circuits, creating new opportunities for local residents.
