Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang met with NITI Aayog officials in New Delhi on Friday to outline his state's progress and long-term development strategy. During the session, he highlighted the state's recent designation as a fully literate region and detailed ongoing initiatives in mental health, women's empowerment, and sustainable development under the Sikkim Vision 2047 framework.
Tamang established a goal to grow the state's economy to USD 70 billion by fostering entrepreneurship and innovation. He also noted that the state aims to become a primary hub for wellness and high-value tourism. To support these ambitions, he requested federal assistance to improve digital, air, and rail networks. Specifically, he urged for the restoration of flights at Pakyong Airport and the timely completion of the Sivok-Rangpo Railway Project.
Addressing the challenges of the Himalayan terrain, the Chief Minister advocated for climate-resilient infrastructure, particularly in North Sikkim. He also requested an extension of the North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy beyond 2027 to ensure continued growth. Emphasizing the state's role in national prosperity, he stated, "Reaffirming Sikkim's commitment to the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, Tamang expressed confidence that continued support from the Government of India and NITI Aayog would enable the Himalayan state to emerge as a model of inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development."
