Gangtok: A delegation from the Sikkim BJP visited the State Trading Corporation of Sikkim headquarters in Gangtok on Wednesday to demand immediate action regarding the state's persistent LPG cylinder shortage. Led by state officials including Sangay Gyatso Bhutia, Sangay Pulger, and Lalit Pokhrel, the group sought to address the growing public frustration caused by supply gaps.

The party representatives reported that residents face long queues at distribution centers, with many citizens frequently leaving empty-handed. They also highlighted that administrative hurdles, such as KYC verification and DAC number errors, are further restricting access to essential fuel supplies. The party emphasized that these shortages are disproportionately impacting daily-wage earners and students.

The Managing Director of the STCS explained that the supply chain is currently strained due to reduced output from regional bottling plants and broader logistical pressures linked to conflicts in West Asia. The corporation noted that it is working to stabilize the supply chain, adding, "STCS urged consumers to use available LPG resources judiciously until regular supplies resume."

While the BJP acknowledged the explanation provided by state officials, the party insisted that further intervention is necessary to protect residents. The organization plans to raise the issue with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to request prioritized LPG allocations for Sikkim to restore normal service levels.
