Shillong Traffic Police and Schools Collaborate to Reduce Laitumkhrah Congestion

Shillong: Shillong Traffic Police officials met with representatives from several prominent schools on Friday to establish new measures for easing road congestion. Held at the office of the Superintendent of Police in East Khasi Hills, the meeting brought together stakeholders from institutions including St. Mary’s LP School, St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Loreto Convent, St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, and St. Margaret’s Higher Secondary School.

The discussion focused on practical solutions to manage traffic during busy morning and afternoon hours. The group examined ways to streamline vehicle movement near campuses and refine current pick-up and drop-off procedures to prevent bottlenecks. Beyond physical traffic management, the meeting addressed the importance of promoting road safety awareness among students, parents, and school bus drivers.

Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Hari Prasanth M.R. stated the initiative is part of an ongoing effort to manage transit challenges in areas where many educational institutions are clustered. He said the initiative is part of the Traffic Police’s ongoing efforts to tackle traffic challenges in neighbourhoods with a high concentration of educational institutions. Moving forward, the department intends to maintain close coordination with schools and families to ensure safer commutes for students.
