Shillong Community Holds Vigil for 6 Naga Civilians Killed in Manipur

Shillong: Members of the Naga community, civil society groups, and students gathered at Khyndai Lad in Shillong on Saturday evening to mourn six Naga civilians killed in the ongoing Manipur unrest. The event was organized by the Naga Elders Forum Shillong and ran for one hour, drawing a large crowd that lit candles and offered prayers for the victims.

Participants observed a period of silence to reflect on the loss of life and show support for the families left behind. Speakers at the vigil addressed the violence currently affecting Manipur, emphasizing the urgent need to restore communal harmony and ensure the safety of all citizens.

The group issued a formal appeal for the government to take immediate action to stabilize the region. They also called for a transparent investigation into the killings. Organizers stated, "the vigil was intended not only to pay tribute to the 6 Naga victims but also to convey a message of compassion, solidarity and support to the affected families and communities."

Local authorities helped facilitate the event to ensure it remained orderly. Sector magistrates coordinated with the Superintendent of Police in the East Khasi Hills district to maintain security throughout the gathering.
