Kohima: The Secheku Women Block Level Federation recently hosted its second annual general body meeting in Pholami Village, Phek district. The event drew approximately 350 participants, including village leaders, elders, and self-help group members from the surrounding area.
Guest speaker Vechulou Kanuo, former executive director of the Chakhesang Women Welfare Society, praised the federation for its role in advancing rural women. She noted that since the introduction of self-help groups in 2002, women in the region have seen significant improvements in leadership, economic participation, and health. Kanuo encouraged the members to maintain financial transparency and balance their professional pursuits with family responsibilities.
The federation currently manages programs supported by the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission. During the meeting, members shared success stories ranging from the creation of vegetable supply businesses to the expansion of livestock farming. These initiatives have helped local women achieve greater financial independence and confidence.
The event also featured an awards ceremony recognizing top contributors, including the best village facilitator and the most outstanding self-help group. In a key administrative move, the federation elected Zhonolü Lohe to serve as secretary until 2028. The gathering concluded with a focus on future organizational goals, emphasizing the federation's mission to strengthen both economies and lives throughout the Secheku region.
