Kohima: Tshope Lasushe and Kimeri Sangtam traveled to Shillong to join the ISRO Young Scientist Programme, also known as YUVIKA. The two Class IX students represented Saint John’s Higher Secondary School from May 10 to 23. This trip marks the fourth year in a row that the school has sent pupils to the prestigious space technology event.
Kimeri Sangtam stood out among the group. She earned third place in the project competition. The event aims to push kids toward careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. Participants get hands-on lessons in space science and see how engineers apply their craft in the real world.
Principal Johny Abraham praised the students for their work. He highlighted how the event connects local youth with top researchers. Abraham said, "The programme provides valuable exposure and opportunities for students to interact with scientists and peers from across the region."
The school started its streak in 2019 with one student. Since then, they have sent students every year, including four in 2024 and five in 2025. Administrators credited ISRO for creating a space to grow scientific talent across the Northeast.
