Shillong: Swer residents and students now have a smoother ride. Sohra MLA Gavin Miguel Mylliem opened the upgraded approach road to Lum Swer and the local Ramakrishna Mission Higher Secondary School on Friday. The route promises safer passage for hundreds of students and better access to vital services.
Mylliem praised local leaders and state officials for the project. He noted the work supports wider efforts to boost rural infrastructure. The ceremony featured cultural performances from students of Ramakrishna Secondary School and Shining Star School. Officials from the Public Works department joined village elders to mark the completion.
In a separate move, the Rotary Club of Shillong finalized its new leadership for the 2026-27 term. Osmand Nongbri took the reins as president from outgoing leader Chandana Das. The new team includes Gurmeet Singh as vice-president, Sunil Arora as secretary, and Akash Chirania as treasurer.
Nongbri plans to follow the global theme of creating lasting impact. He said his initiatives would be guided by the goal to "Create Lasting Impact" through community service projects. Former Ambassador Riewad V. Warjri attended the event to welcome the new board.
