Ri-Bhoi Police Seek Identity of Man Found Dead at Petrol Pump

Shillong: Ri-Bhoi police found an unidentified man dead at the NES Bharat Petrol Pump in 12th Mile, Mawsmai. Workers discovered the body on September 25. The man appeared to be between 55 and 60 years old.

Staff spotted him sleeping near the toilet area at 2:00 AM. When a fuel dispenser tried to wake him at 5:30 AM, he did not respond. Pump manager Jaswan Singh called the police. "Preliminary inquiries suggest the deceased was a ragpicker who collected recyclable materials in the area."

Local residents and the village headman could not identify the man. Byrnihat Police Station reports zero matching missing-person cases. Officials moved the body to the Civil Hospital mortuary in Nongpoh after a post-mortem examination. It sits there now, waiting for a claim.

The man was thin, stood 5 feet 4 inches tall, and had a dusky complexion. He had short grey-and-black hair, a grey moustache, and stubble. He wore a light blue or grey printed T-shirt and a checked lungi. Anyone with information should call the Nongpoh Police Control Room at 6909300160.
