Guwahati: Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Boro has formally requested Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to intervene in the management of the Central Institute of Technology Kokrajhar. Boro expressed significant concern regarding the current leadership structure at the institution, warning that prolonged instability threatens the institute's overall performance and credibility.
In a letter to the minister, Boro emphasized that the institute requires stable, accountable and campus-based leadership. He stated that the current arrangement, which relies on a Director-in-Charge, leads to delays in academic and administrative decision-making, ultimately damaging the morale of faculty and students.
Boro warned that failure to resolve these issues could harm research activities, placement efforts and infrastructure development. He wrote, "The institute requires stable, accountable and campus-based leadership to ensure that academic and administrative decisions are taken without delay and to maintain the confidence of students, faculty members and other stakeholders."
To address the situation, the MP suggested an urgent review of the current leadership model. He proposed that an eligible senior faculty member, such as the current Registrar or Campus-in-Charge, should be appointed as the interim lead in accordance with the institute's Memorandum of Association until a permanent director is hired. As a key technical hub for the Bodoland Territorial Region and the broader Northeast, Boro argued that the institute is essential for promoting technical education and employability in the region.
