Guwahati: The Jatiya Yuva Bahini, the youth wing of Raijor Dal, filed a formal complaint at Dispur Police Station on July 11. They want an FIR against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The grievance stems from remarks the Chief Minister made during a press conference regarding a mural of singer Zubeen Garg at Ganeshguri.

Sarma suggested that people painting a revolutionary should depict ULFA (Independent) chief Paresh Baruah instead of Che Guevara. The youth wing claims this legitimizes a leader of a group banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967. The complaint argues this sets a dangerous double standard. Ordinary citizens face criminal charges for supporting the militant group, but constitutional authorities seem exempt.

The group demands a fair probe. They want police to analyze if the statement violates the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act or the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita of 2023. "Equality before the law is a fundamental constitutional principle, and no person is above the law," the group stated. The signatories include Jatiya Yuva Bahini president Gyanashree Bora, working president Saurav Bora, and information secretary Ankuman Bordoloi.

The organization worries that youth will view the comments as a normalization of militancy. They urged police to secure all audio and video transcripts from the press event. No response came from the Chief Minister or the Assam government yet.
