Kohima: Pungro Town Council hosted a PM SVANidhi Lok Kalyan Mela on September 17. The event took place at the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner in Kiphire. Local street vendors and small business owners from across the Pungro subdivision showed up for the session.
The central government launched the PM SVANidhi scheme on June 1, 2020. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs created the program to provide collateral-free micro-credit loans to vendors hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative has helped countless workers over the past six years. It focuses on micro-loans, digital payment adoption, and connecting families to essential social security programs.
Experts from the Pungro Medical Department, the local State Bank of India branch, and the Customer Service Point spoke at the event. They detailed the specific advantages of the program. Organizers noted the campaign serves as a precursor to broader scheme efforts. The session aimed to empower the local workforce through direct financial access.
