Imphal: Residents and civil society groups staged a sit-in at Khurai Lamlong Keithel today. They demanded justice for six Naga men killed after being abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, 2026. Armed Kuki militants snatched 18 people that day. The group included women and children.
Twelve captives walked free. The militants killed the other six. Searchers finally recovered the bodies on June 10. The victims were Rev. Manu, P.R. Kenpibonu, Phenrongwibou, Delip, Kaliwangbou, and Phenrilungbou.
Protesters filled the streets for two and a half hours. They shouted slogans and pushed for the arrest of the killers. Locals also voiced support for victims of separate attacks in Jiribam and Tronglaobi. The crowd made their stance clear: "Protesters raised slogans demanding the arrest and punishment of those responsible for the killings."
The group wants the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki militants tossed out. They also want the Kuki National Front (KNF-P) labeled a terrorist organization. Beyond the current violence, the demonstrators insisted that the state must hold off on a national census until the National Register of Citizens is ready.
