Guwahati: President Droupadi Murmu awarded the Shaurya Chakra to two servicemen from Assam, Major Bhargav Kalita and Dhruva Jyoti Dutta, during a ceremony in New Delhi on Monday. The Shaurya Chakra stands as India's third-highest peacetime gallantry award.

Major Kalita received the honor for his leadership and courage during a high-risk counter-terrorism operation. Officials credited his decisive actions and operational skills for the successful completion of the mission under challenging conditions.

Dhruva Jyoti Dutta earned the award for his actions during an ambush in Manipur. Despite sustaining a bullet injury, he continued his mission and saved eight fellow soldiers from further harm.

Chief Minister Sarma noted that the recognition highlights the resilience and sacrifice of armed forces personnel working in life-threatening situations. He added that the achievements of these men serve as an inspiration for the younger generation and reflect Assam's enduring role in national security. The President also presented seven Kirti Chakras and 15 Vir Chakras to other personnel from the armed forces, police, and security organizations during the event.
