Agartala: Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has criticized the lack of village council elections in Tripura, noting that these local polls have been stalled for a decade. He described the situation as shameful, particularly given ongoing national debates regarding the One Nation, One Election initiative and the state of democracy in India.
Pradyot has personally financed a two-year legal battle in the Supreme Court to secure these voting rights for indigenous communities. He expressed confidence that the apex court would intervene and compel the Tripura State Election Commission to schedule the long-overdue elections. "This fight has been fought by myself, and I have spent my own pocket money. I want my indigenous people to get their real rights," he stated.
The royal scion maintained that his legal efforts focus on constitutional rights rather than partisan interests. He called on his supporters to remain united, emphasizing that the indigenous population is becoming increasingly educated and politically active. He dismissed critics who have questioned his motives, stating that his primary goal is to ensure that the people of Tripura receive the representation promised to them by the Constitution.
