Agartala: Tripura police pulled over a vehicle at the Laljuri Check Post in North Tripura on July 5 and uncovered a massive stash of illegal smokes. Officers seized 196 bundles, totaling 39,200 individual sticks, hidden inside a car with registration TR-02N-0726. The black-market value of the haul hits Rs 6 lakh.

The operation relied on specific intel. Police stopped the vehicle, searched the interior, and hauled the contraband away. Officials confirmed they took the vehicle and cigarettes into custody under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita to kick off legal proceedings.

Investigators are now hunting for the source of the cigarettes and the people running the smuggling ring. Police stated the raid proves they are serious about their mission, noting, "Police said the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence and reiterated their commitment to cracking down on the smuggling and illegal trade of contraband items in the state."
