Police Seize 711 Bottles of Banned Cough Syrup in Assam

Guwahati: Patharkandi police intercepted an autorickshaw at Moina Bypass and seized 711 bottles of banned cough syrup. The haul holds a market value of roughly Rs 8 lakh. Police arrested the driver, Durudh Mia, and confiscated the vehicle, identified as TR 02 B 4000.

The drugs were hidden well. Officers found the stash inside a secret compartment welded beneath the autorickshaw. A team led by Officer-in-Charge Biswajit Deuri and SI Hirak Jyoti Das acted on a tip-off to stop the vehicle as it headed from Sribhumi toward Tripura.

Authorities pulled several sacks from the hidden floor during the detailed search. The investigation continues as officers work to expose the interstate smuggling network. Officials stated, "Police have launched a further investigation to identify other individuals involved and uncover the suspected interstate smuggling network."
