Shillong: Authorities discovered an unidentified man dead inside the old Sales Tax Building in Byrnihat on July 5. The grim discovery occurred around 6:20 pm. Officials from the Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police office confirmed the victim was a local homeless man. He suffered from mental instability and frequently wandered the area.
The body now rests at the Nongpoh Civil Hospital. Medical staff performed an inquest and a post-mortem examination. The man stands about 5.3 feet tall with a skinny frame and a swarthy complexion. He has short black hair and a moustache. He wore only white shorts when found.
Police are desperate for leads. They urged anyone with information to help identify the man by calling 9856084514. The office stated, "Police have, meanwhile, urged all concerned to contact 9856084514 for identification of the deceased."
