Shillong: Shillong police are still hunting a college student accused of serial sexual assaults one week after the investigation began. The suspect remains at large, and authorities have issued a lookout notice to track him down.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed the lack of progress on Sunday. "We are yet to arrest him. Efforts are on," Syiem said.
The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress is pushing for a time-bound probe into the attacks. MPMC president Joplyn Scott Shylla said the crimes violate the dignity and safety of local women. She demanded the police conduct an unbiased investigation to ensure the suspect faces prosecution immediately.
The group also expects survivors to receive respectful treatment during the legal process. They want the Home department to secure campus areas for female students. Accountability remains the priority for restoring the city's reputation as a safe place for education.
