Shillong: The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress is pushing for a fast, fair investigation into a Shillong man accused of sexually assaulting college women. President Joplyn Shylla demanded that authorities arrest and prosecute the suspect if evidence confirms his guilt.
Shylla issued a sharp warning about the gravity of the accusations. "If the allegations are true, such acts represent a grave violation of the dignity, safety and rights of women and deserve the strongest condemnation," she said. The group is urging investigators to show the victims compassion throughout the legal process.
A photo of the accused, Jonathan Pachuau, recently hit social media alongside images of an ultrasound report. The posts claim Pachuau assaulted multiple women. Police confirm only one official FIR exists, filed at Laitumkhrah Police Station on July 7.
The suspect is now on the run. East Khasi Hills Police are working with Mizoram Police to track him down. Officials are asking other potential victims to come forward with formal complaints. Investigators stated they are only working off the single verified FIR while they pursue the absconding suspect.
