Agartala: Airport police in Agartala detained eight Bangladeshi men over the last day. The group allegedly entered Tripura illegally and tried to flee the state by plane. All eight men are currently in custody. The arrests started Saturday after officers received a tip that four suspects planned to fly out of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport.

Police launched a surveillance op to catch the arrivals. They grabbed the first four men at the scene. Those suspects spilled details during questioning. That led cops to four more men hiding near the terminal. All eight suspects are now facing legal proceedings. Police took the new group before a judge to request remand for more interrogation.

The investigation focuses on how these men crossed the border. Detectives want to know where they were headed. They are also looking for a wider network. Investigators are probing "whether an organised human trafficking or illegal immigration network facilitated their movement." Police expect more developments as they continue to lean on the suspects for answers.
