Imphal: A Chinese hand grenade appeared at the gate of Sharungbam Bimol early today. Bimol runs M/S H. Rameshwar Sharma Saw Mill, also known as Victoria Veneer Mill, in Yairipok Yambem Makha Leikai. Locals spotted the explosive and alerted the authorities. Andro Police Station officers and the Manipur Police Bomb Disposal Team arrived at 8 am. They secured the device and finished removing it by 10:13 am. Later, they detonated the grenade safely at Ngariyan Chingon.
A letter sat near the bomb. It bore the letterhead of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Department of Finance). A handwritten note, signed by a deputy finance secretary, labeled the explosive a "last warning" and threatened severe consequences if the group did not receive their message. The note warned of future strikes based on their assessment of the location.
Local Meira Paibis held a public meeting to condemn the threat. They carried placards to protest the bid to incite panic. Mutum Prema, secretary of Yambem Apunba Meira Paibi, demanded a stop to the intimidation. She urged the perpetrators to choose dialogue over violence, noting the state is already under strain. The incident left neighbors shaken and fearing for their safety.
