Guwahati: Bongaigaon police slapped handcuffs on Nazrul Islam yesterday. The man allegedly practiced medicine for years without a single valid degree. He lacked registration with the Assam Council of Medical Registration. The game ended when authorities acted on a tip regarding his work at a private clinic.
Islam claimed he held advanced degrees in Emergency Medicine and Pain Management. Those claims were lies. Investigators say these qualifications do not exist under the National Medical Commission. He treated unsuspecting patients for profit. He even stole another doctor's registration number to fake his credentials on prescription pads.
Authorities booked him under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the National Medical Commission Act. Officials are now digging deeper to see if anyone else helped him run this scam. A police spokesperson confirmed the motive, stating, "The investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the alleged fraud and identify any additional offences or persons connected with the case."
The suspect remains in custody. Prosecutors brought him before a local court following the arrest. Police continue to verify how many patients received his fake treatment.
