Patna High Court Orders Probe Into Cross-State Cannabis Smuggling

Guwahati: Justice Arun Kumar Jha of the Patna High Court slammed state security measures as a hoax. This follows the arrest of two minors caught moving over 60 kg of cannabis from Assam to Bihar. The boys used an unregistered car, bypassing security checks across multiple state borders. The court noted the danger to the public, stating, "They could have easily carried explosives endangering the lives of common people."

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence intercepted the pair at Didarganj last year. Officials found 109 packets of drugs stashed inside a hidden compartment. Neither minor possessed a driver license. Police booked both under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The Juvenile Justice Board eventually declared them Children in Conflict with Law.

While one boy secured bail, the other had to appeal to the High Court. Justice Jha ordered the Senior Superintendent of Police in Patna to finish an inquiry within three months. The probe must verify the ages of both individuals. The court doubted the petitioner claim that he never attended school. If the inquiry uncovers fraudulent age claims, the state can move to cancel existing bail bonds.
