Pangti Village Demands Accelerated Road Construction and Water Infrastructure Restoration

Kohima: Leaders and residents of Pangti village, supported by the Action Committee for PMGSY, have issued a formal demand to contractor M/S LPSS Infra to accelerate the progress of the Phase III T-01 Mangmetong to Doyang road project. Following a general meeting held on April 21, the community expressed deep frustration over the sluggish pace of work, which has included delays in formation cutting, culvert construction, and the installation of retaining walls and side drains. Local authorities emphasized that these delays have made road travel treacherous, particularly during the monsoon season.

Beyond road infrastructure, the community is facing a critical water crisis. A vital supply pipeline serving the village was severed on November 12, 2024, and remains non-functional. The resulting disruption has forced villagers to spend upwards of 30,000 rupees daily on purchasing drinking water throughout the dry season. The village leadership has insisted that the contractor prioritize the replacement of these damaged lines immediately.

To ensure project integrity, the committee has mandated that all construction must adhere to strict quality standards, with local bodies performing regular site monitoring. The village authorities have set a firm deadline of July 31, 2026, for the completion of these essential works. They warned that if the contractor fails to address these grievances within the specified timeframe, the village will not be held accountable for any subsequent repercussions.
