Organized Gang Steals Nine Motorcycles Across Meghalaya in Six Days

Shillong: A coordinated gang is hitting Meghalaya hard. Nine two-wheelers vanished from driveways and public lots between July 4 and July 9. The thieves operated with chilling efficiency across East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills, and West Garo Hills.

Shillong took the brunt of the hits. Bikes went missing from Jhalupara, Lower Mawprem, and various spots in Madanrting. On July 5, a thief took Synjuklang Kharsyntiew’s scooter from the Madanrting Lumjingsuk parking area. Security at these zones is now under heavy fire.

The spree stretches far beyond the capital. Thieves snatched a scooter from a Barato village home on July 5. Two days later, Ranu Islam lost his motorcycle outside the Sub-Divisional Court in Rajabala.

The most recent hit occurred at 3 am on July 9. A motorcycle belonging to Bayolroy Kharumnuid was taken from his home in Mawpdang. Authorities are now scrambling to track the perpetrators. Experts suggest the pattern points to a professional operation, noting the "significant breakdown in local security and the presence of professional lifters operating across the state." Police continue to investigate the surge in thefts.
