Shillong: Leader of the Opposition Titosstarwell Chyne is taking on the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council. He wants the Council to drop its protectionist stance against the quick-commerce platform Blinkit. The Council recently refused a trading license for the company. They fear it will hurt 4,000 local grocery shops.
Chief Executive Member Winston Tony Lyngdoh claims the ban protects local families. Chyne sees it differently. He argues that trying to stop digital progress is a losing battle. If the Council wants to block Blinkit, they must explain why they still allow online sales for clothes and electronics. The logic just does not hold up.
Chyne pointed out the reality of modern shopping habits. “In my personal view, there is nothing inherently wrong with the entry of a quick-commerce platform,” Chyne said. He believes the power belongs to the shoppers. People in Shillong already rely on digital tools for daily needs. Urban youth and professionals are now pushing the Council to modernize its trade policies.
