Agartala: A former jail in North Tripura is getting a new life. The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission officially sanctioned the creation of Juri Haat on the old site. The project turns a defunct prison into a marketplace for the community. It focuses on driving rural entrepreneurship and helping women succeed.

The North Tripura District Mission Management Unit leads the work. This team aims to give local artisans a spot to sell their crafts. The space will house a coffee shop and a restaurant that serves traditional food. Officials noted that the project will "strengthen sustainable livelihoods, promote local products, and encourage rural entrepreneurship by creating new market opportunities for women-led enterprises."

Work crews have finished over 90 percent of the renovations. The site stands ready for its final touches. A grand opening happens soon. Once finished, this market will serve as a hub for tourism and commerce across the district.
