NSCN (K) Niki Group Defends Abduction of Businessman as Anti-Fraud Operation

Kohima: The NSCN (K) Niki Group issued a statement on October 10 denying claims its cadres abducted a businessman from his home in the Khatkhati area of Assam. The group asserts its regional authority detained the man because of his alleged role in fraudulent activities that have targeted innocent people since 2021. The outfit claims the man admitted to these actions and named partners currently operating in Nagaland.

Reports of a 7.5 lakh rupee ransom demand were dismissed by the organization. They claim the individual himself offered to pay the money to secure his release. The group allegedly recovered a mobile phone and other incriminating evidence during their investigation. The group noted the suspect was previously detained by law enforcement in 2024 for fraud but later released.

The organization called on police to conduct a thorough investigation into the businessman’s financial dealings and partners. They stated, "The circumstances surrounding the incident must be examined objectively." They also requested that authorities verify if other complaints against the man exist.

Dimapur Police reported on Friday that they rescued a man abducted at gunpoint from the Karbi Anglong district. Nagaland Police found the victim in the Kuhuboto area of Dimapur. Officers arrested one suspected NSCN (K) Niki cadre. Authorities transferred the victim and the suspect to Assam Police to continue the case.
