Nongstoin Squad Checks Credentials of 72 Migrant Workers

Shillong: The Nongstoin Anti-Infiltration Special Squad swept through Riwiang and Umjaru villages in Meghalaya’s West Khasi Hills district. They targeted two local ferro alloy units. Agents wanted to see if the migrant workers had their paperwork in order. The operation checked 72 people.

Every worker passed the inspection. Officials confirmed that each individual held valid Indian voter identity cards and maintained current registrations with the Labour Department. The squad keeps records updated to track labor migration. Authorities stated the move was meant to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

State officials confirmed the final status of the laborers after the audit. "All the workers were registered with the Labour Department and were confirmed to be Indian citizens possessing valid voter identity cards," authorities noted. The drive remains part of an ongoing regional effort to monitor workforces.
