Guwahati: Shabnam Sultana filed an FIR at the Dhing Police Station accusing her husband, Nur Alam Hussain alias Ratul, of bigamy. She claims Ratul took a second wife while they remained legally married with a child. The incident occurred in Batadrava, Nagaon. Ratul resides in Bherbheri village.
Sultana alleges that Sahab Uddin and his wife, Ranjana Khatun, helped facilitate the secret marriage. The couple allegedly houses Ratul and his new wife at their home in Dhupguri Kachari village. Sultana confronted them at that location. The group turned violent. She says, "Shabnam Sultana, claimed that when she reached the house after learning about the alleged marriage, she was assaulted by Ratul, Sahab Uddin and Ranjana Khatun before they fled the spot."
The suspects escaped after the confrontation. Sultana now demands the state government seize their assets. She also alleges that both Ratul and Sahab Uddin operate in the illegal drug trade. Ratul reportedly served jail time for drug trafficking in the past. Police continue to investigate these claims. Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the alleged violation of the Uniform Civil Code.
