Nagaland Wildlife Officials Enforce Strict Hunting Ban

Kohima: The Doyang Wildlife Division has officially reinforced a ban on the hunting and trade of wild animals and birds. This order, issued October 13 by the Wildlife Warden under the Nagaland Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, applies to Wokha, Mokokchung, and Zunheboto districts.

Authorities are targeting the illegal killing of migratory Amur Falcons. Hunting, trapping, or selling these birds for food or possession remains a criminal act. Offenders risk up to seven years in prison or a 25,000 rupee fine under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.

Wildlife Warden Jongponglemba warned of impending legal action against any violators. He noted, "Appropriate legal action would be initiated against individuals or groups found violating the provisions of the Act." Officials expect full public cooperation to protect biodiversity across these territorial jurisdictions.
