Kohima: The Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch, is set to celebrate World Red Cross Day on May 8 with a public outreach event titled Walk for Humanity. This initiative aligns with the global theme of United for Humanity, which seeks to foster compassion and solidarity while addressing pressing humanitarian challenges. The annual observance honors the birth anniversary of Jean Henri Dunant, the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the first Nobel Peace Prize recipient.
General Secretary Akhale Khamo and other officials stated that the event marks a shift from traditional indoor observances to a more visible, community oriented approach. The walk is scheduled to commence at 7 am from the Red Cross Complex in Kohima, concluding at the Old NST area. Dr. Tsielhoutuo Rhutso, a local MLA and medical professional, will serve as the guest speaker to deliver a talk focused on health and wellness.
This campaign has garnered support from various stakeholders, including the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, local youth groups, blood donor associations, and healthcare NGOs. Organizers emphasized that the walk serves as a catalyst for a broader movement aimed at strengthening volunteerism, emergency response capabilities, and blood donation awareness across the state. They have extended an open invitation to the public, particularly youth, to join the movement and contribute to ongoing relief efforts in the region.
