Nagaland Prepares for Census 2027 Population Enumeration

Kohima: Nagaland officials are ramping up for the second phase of Census 2027. The State Level Census Coordination Committee met September 29 at the Kohima Secretariat to hammer out the details. Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen led the session alongside senior department heads. They reviewed progress from the successful first phase, which wrapped up in July using digital tools across 157 charges.

The state aims to start the next push in early 2027. Plans show the self-enumeration window opens January 10 and runs through January 24. Population enumeration follows from January 25 to February 28, with a final revision round set for March 1 to 5. Training remains a priority. The committee is prepping master trainers, field staff, and technical assistants for the job.

Down in Chiephobozou, officials are already gathering data for the District Census Handbook. ADC Vekusheyi Rhakho told field staff to keep their facts straight. The handbook acts as a vital reference point for state planning. "Departmental information should be provided separately for villages and towns," Rhakho stated. Staff must ensure entries are accurate.

Census Directorate experts and local administrative officials met with field functionaries and town councillors to clear up questions on Village Directory manuals. Coordination between the departments of Home, Finance, Urban Development, Education, and Rural Development is already underway. The state is now aligning financial budgets and media outreach plans to boost public participation.

The Chiephobozou planning session held on September 30 identified specific technical leads guiding the process. Assistant Director of the Kohima Census Office, Chuyalo Kath, joined EAC Viketoulie Metha and census executives T. Tsikingmong and Kuraktsang K. to workshop the Village Directory manuals. This group fielded direct questions from town councillors and field staff to iron out data collection hurdles before the upcoming phase.
