Kohima: The office of the Labour Commissioner in Nagaland issued a stern second notification on July 31 targeting eight trade unions. These groups are failing to function or have defaulted on regulatory requirements. They now face imminent deregistration under the Trade Unions Act, 1926.
The department listed the Dimapur Motor Workers Trade Union, Dimapur Auto Rickshaw Owners Union, Dimapur Land Transport Workers Union, East Dimapur Purana Bazar Labour Trade Union, and the Dimapur Taxi Drivers Union. Also named are the Dimapur Cycle Rickshaw Pullers Union, Dimapur Truck Drivers Union, and the Kohima District Land Transport Trade Union, Phesama.
These unions previously ignored an initial 30-day notice period. Officials gave them a final 15-day window to contact the Registrar of Trade Unions. They must prove they intend to resume normal operations to keep their legal status.
The department warned that silence means the end. They will face "the initiation of necessary proceeding for cancellation of registration as per relevant provisions of the Trade Unions Acts and Rules."
