Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav met with Kohima Smart City Development Limited officials at Lok Bhavan on Friday. He audited the status of urban projects managed by the special purpose vehicle, which formed in March 2017 after the city joined the mission on September 20, 2016.
Construction crews have wrapped up 40 total projects. This includes 34 original mission items plus six additional developments. The city now boasts a new city centre, hotel building, commercial complex, and multi-level parking. Crews also finished a mini sports complex, the Kohima Local Ground, Capital Cultural Hall, and community halls.
The city's Integrated Command and Control Centre is now live. It keeps eyes on the streets with CCTV coverage at 80 locations. Officials claim the center supports traffic management and police investigations. According to the briefing, the system recorded a 76.47% success rate in cases aided by surveillance data between November 2025 and September 2026.
State leaders are now eyeing the future. The Smart Cities Mission officially ends on March 31, 2026. Officials told the governor that the state government is currently weighing the long-term role of the agency. Some assets are already generating cash. Officials stated, "several revenue-generating urban assets established under the mission are operational, with the revenue intended to support additional public amenities and services."
