Kohima: Nagaland BJP officials gathered at their Kohima headquarters on July 6 to mark the 125th birth anniversary of party founder Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee. State leaders spent the day reflecting on his career as an educator, minister, and political pioneer.
Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton addressed the crowd. He touted Mukherjee's influence on national progress and his commitment to duty. "Today, we remember a leader whose life was defined by service, courage and great love for India," Patton said.
Patton pointed to Mukherjee’s past as the youngest Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University as evidence of his focus on character and education. The party leader also noted Mukherjee’s tenure as the first Minister for Industry and Supply, where he established institutions meant for long-term growth. The event covered his 1951 founding of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the predecessor to the modern BJP.
Local party figures rounded out the ceremony. Thomas Magh of the ST Morcha shared a brief history of the founder while spokesperson Chitho Nyusou detailed his political life. The service concluded with prayer and a folk music performance.
