Panmei, a member of the TRC Follower from Naga Zeliangrong Religious Minority from Pongringlong Part-I, disappeared on June 8 after an armed group allegedly ambushed a group of villagers collecting firewood near Tupul.

According to reports, the villagers were attacked at approximately 5 a.m. While most escaped, Panmei was captured and later found in a nearby jungle with multiple gunshot wounds. As per reports, the armed Kuki militants are responsible for the attack, noting that the region has seen recurring violence against Rongmei Naga villagers throughout May and June.

The organisation stated it mourned the loss of the 57-year-old and honoured his commitment to protecting his community. In response to what they described as a heinous crime, the group has warned that they are prepared to launch a "befitting retaliation." The organization also demanded greater attention to the deteriorating security situation facing Naga residents in the district.
